Good Practices to Adopt as Utah is in Drought Conditions

All are urged to adopt water conservancy practices. This comes on the heels of the governor issuing an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency due to serious drought conditions. Utah has 90% of the state experiencing extreme drought and 100% in at least the moderate drought category. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources asks the public to evaluate water usage as we live in one of the driest states in the nation. A couple of simple ideas to conserve water include making sure to fix leaky faucets and keep plumbing updated. Use more mulch around plants and shrubs to help reduce evaporation. Also consider bathing pets in areas that the yard needs watering. Don’t over water, as it shortens plant life, and pull weeds as they siphon water. Finally, adjust the lawn mower so that it is higher since longer grass shades the grasses’ root system and holds moisture.
