Senator Ron Winterton Looking to Increase Film Incentive Cap

‘Yellowstone’ is a popular television series that has been filming in the Summit County area. The show has provided memorable experiences for locals in their demeanor and treatment of the county, filming in rural areas. They have even spent money to have local talent. Unfortunately, the production crew left for Montana because of the state’s better incentives. Senator Ron Winterton is sponsoring SB 167, Utah Film Economic Incentives, that wants to increase its cap on incentives given to film production crews. The bill would essentially double the amount of refundable motion picture tax credits the Governor’s Office of Economic Development can offer as an incentive for film productions from $8.3 million to $15 million. While it might seem like it is giving Hollywood a break it is incentives based on money spent in the state. Summit County officials reported that the ‘Yellowstone’ production led to $160 million dollars in spending in the county over the past four years of filming.
