A bill supported by Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum, the Vernal Chamber Legislative Committee, and other local leaders is making progress in the Utah Legislature. Senator Ron Winterton confirmed on Monday evening that HB 60, Conceal Carry Firearms Amendments, had passed through the Utah House and Senate and is headed to Governor Cox’s desk. Cox has expressed support of the bill previously and it is expected that he will sign it. The bill will allow for individuals 21 years old and older to lawfully possess a firearm and carry a concealed firearm in a public area without a permit. If passed, the unused funds in the Concealed Weapons Account would be transferred to the state’s Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health for suicide prevention efforts. If signed, the bill will go into effect on May 5th.
