A Vernal man who played an important role in the education of thousands of youth will be remembered as he is laid to rest today. WJ Wamsley passed away on Sunday at the age of 96. Wamsley taught school in Arizona, Texas, and Utah over a 55 year career in education, retiring at the age of 83. He taught 20 years at Todd Elementary and West Junior High School. The years following his retirement still saw him in plenty of classrooms as he volunteered in local elementary schools even into his 90s. In 2018, at the age of 94, he received the Friends of Education Award in the Uintah School District due to his legacy of supporting local youth and their education. The obituary for Mr. Wamsley shares a quote from him in which he said that when he dies he hopes that he “will have helped make the world a little better place.” He certainly has. Services for Mr. Wamsley are being held today. Our condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and countless students who will miss his presence moving forward.
