Randlett Man Charged For Fatality in Accident

A Randlett man has been formally charged after crashing his vehicle while under the influence. 46-year-old Wayland Charles Serawop has been charged with Felony Automobile Homicide Criminal Negligence DUI, Felony Failure to Remain at an Accident Involving Death, Misdemeanor Possession or Use of a Controlled Substance, Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving on a Denied Licence, Interlock Restricted Driver Operating a Vehicle Without Interlock System, and being an Alcohol Restricted Driver. According to court documents, Serawop crashed his pickup truck at 5706 South 7500 East in Uintah County ejecting the vehicle passenger who became tangled in a barbed wire fence. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Tony Greaves, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A witness spotted Serawop trying to get the vehicle unstuck. He later ran away from the scene and was found hiding in nearby trees. Police say he had slurred speech, red eyes, had a strong odor of alcohol, could hardly stand, and refused to perform a field sobriety test or breath test. Inside the vehicle officers located a glass pipe with Methamphetamine residue. Serawop has previous DUI convictions and was pending sentencing on one when this crash occurred.
