Red Flag conditions continue to increase activity on the East Fork Fire. Ashley National Forest shared on Monday that high winds associated with the Red Flag Warning are literally fueling the flames. “Fire is continuing to progress south towards Stillwater Dam and backing down to the water’s edge,” shared Operations Section Chief Heather McRae on Monday. “We do have crews and engines out protecting the infrastructure around the dam, the campgrounds, and the guard station in the area. [They] also have crews prepping roads and trying to come up with a plan to contain the fire within the road system.” McRae said they had very active fire Monday with winds continuing to blow and relative humidity low. All are asked to respect forest closures and stay away from fire’s edge so all are out of the way when the fire decides to move with the wind. The lightning caused East Fork Fire began on August 21st and was at 74,589 acres and 68 percent contained.
