After careful and patient consideration of local and state recommendations, plans for the 2020-2021 Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra season have been announced. The decision has been made to shift back to a strings only orchestra for at least this season and local youth string instrumentalists are invited to audition. “The Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra has been a positive experience for my daughters,” shares UBYCO board president Teresa Rasmussen. “They were a little apprehensive to try out but they prepared a few pieces well and Brad Vanfleet (the director) made them feel at ease…I could tell he had the enthusiasm we were looking for and would make orchestra a positive experience. It takes practice and determination to become a musician,” continues Rasmussen. “We have been amazed at the difficulty of music and how they have been able to pull it off with confidence. Five years ago the orchestra had 20 members and last year had almost 50. We are so blessed to have this youth orchestra as an important part of our kids lives. They work hard and get to work collectively to perform classical pieces as well as contemporary works by renowned artists. As the board president I want to encourage outstanding youth in Vernal and surrounding areas to come try out and see what this great orchestra is all about.” Auditions for youth string players can be scheduled by calling UBYCO Director Brad Vanfleet at 801-979-2267.
