K-9 Deployment Ends Prolonged Chase of Man Who Violated Protection Order

Vernal Police issued a press release on Sunday sharing that on Friday August 14th, Vernal City Police Officers were called to a home on an unknown problem. Upon arrival Officers found that a Court Order of Protection had been violated and the suspect, identified as 48-year-old John Renwick had fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to locate Renwick and when approached Renwick again fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit Renwick made aggressive actions at the officer and a Taser device was deployed. A physical struggle ensued between Renwick and the Officer while the Officer was attempting to place Renwick under arrest, and Renwick again fled from the scene. A K-9 was deployed and apprehended Renwick without further incident. Both Renwick and the Officer sustained injury during this incident. Based on the nature of injuries sustained by Renwick he was flown to a Wasatch Front hospital and his condition [was] unknown at the time of [the] press release. The Officer was treated at the hospital and released with minor injury. Renwick will be charged with Violation of a Protective Order, Assault on a Police Officer, Attempted Disarming of a Police Officer, and Failure to stop at the command of Law Enforcement. This case is still under investigation and additional information may be released if it becomes available.
