Cottonwood Fire Contained on Ashley National Forest on Sunday

The Cottonwood Fire, reported on Saturday in the Ashley National Forest Flaming Gorge Ranger District, is now contained. According to the Ashley National Forest, the fire was contained at approximately 18 acres and the cause remains under investigation. Three engines, firefighters from the Dutch John Volunteer Fire Department, one hotshot crew, one 20-person Type 2 hand crew and one medium helicopter have been battling the fire. Public Information Officer Louis Haynes shares that “firefighters engaged this fire at the right time with the right resources. The medium helicopter was able to deliver 35 bucket drops [Saturday] before dark, greatly [assisting] in reducing the fire’s potential for growth.” The Cottonwood Fire was reported at approximately 7:22 p.m. on July 18th and is located about one-half mile east of Little Hole Boat Launch on the Green River East of Dutch John. The fire started near Cottonwood Campground along the north side of the Green River.
