A wildfire was reported on Saturday in the Ashley National Forest Flaming Gorge Ranger District. A press release from the Ashley National Forest states: “At approximately 7:22 p.m. the Cottonwood Fire was reported about one-half mile east of Little Hole Boat Launch on the Green River East of Dutch John, Utah. The point of ignition is near Cottonwood Campground, which is a campground along the north side of the Green River. As of 9 p.m. the fire has grown to 15 acres and is burning in grass and sagebrush. One structure and powerlines are threatened. The fire is burning north towards Mann Spring and Goslin Mountain. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Currently firefighters on the scene are working on the western flank of the fire. Three engines, firefighters from the Dutch John Volunteer Fire Department, one hotshot crew and one medium helicopter are assigned to the fire with orders placed for additional resources.” The helicopter was able to complete 35 bucket drops before it became to dark to operate.
