Crews continue to battle a fire reported 30 miles northeast of Vernal in Daggett County. The Allen Fire was reported on Monday evening near the Utah-Colorado state line and was originally being called the Allen Draw Fire. Utah Fire Info provided an update on the lightning-caused Allen Fire on Tuesday sharing that it is estimated to be 40 acres in size and burning on steep terrain in timber. “Structures in the flat in Allen Draw are threatened by the fire, however, winds are pushing the fire up slope,” shares the Tuesday update. “The fire is currently being fought by engine crews from the Bureau of Land Management, the state of Utah and the U.S. Forest Service. Two helicopters are also assigned to the fire and are making water drops to slow the fire’s progress. The water is coming from portable tanks, known as ‘pumpkins’ that are being filled by Uintah Fire District water tenders. A BLM dozer is also assigned to the fire. Additional resources have been ordered and are on their way. These include three hotshot crews, a Type 2 initial attack crew, a couple more engines and one additional helicopter. The BLM is working with permittees to ensure that livestock in this area can be gathered and accounted for. At present, there are no reports of livestock being lost.” The Allen Fire was zero percent contained as of Tuesday night.
