Duchesne County Fire Marshal Mike Lefler issued a news release on Wednesday announcing that construction is underway on the Dollar Ridge Fire Emergency Watershed Protection Project. The project is taking place in the Strawberry River and Timber Canyon areas to repair damage caused by the Dollar Ridge Fire and the flash floods that followed. Construction will take place throughout the summer and fall from the Strawberry Pinnacles area west to Timber Canyon and continuing up Timber Canyon to Cow Hollow. “There will be trucks and other heavy equipment working along the Strawberry River and Timber Canyon roads for the next six months,” shares Lefler. “The roads will be gated to discourage public access; however, they will remain open for use by property owners and other essential traffic. Due to the massive amount of debris, road damage and loss of the Timber Canyon bridge caused by flash flooding, the roads may be completely inaccessible or impassable at times during construction, and will have intermittent closures throughout the construction period. Everyone in the area should be aware of the high flash flooding potential during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms,” continues Lefler. “Public safety is our greatest priority. We urge citizens to avoid this area; but if travel in the area is necessary, be aware of construction equipment and yield the right of way to them.” The project is through Duchesne County, in coordination with the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Emergency Watershed Protection Program, Jones & DeMille Engineering and contractor, Perco Rock.
