Fireworks have been the cause of multiple fires over the last week, primarily over the holiday weekend and all are urged to use extreme caution to avoid human caused wildfires. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, on July 4th, local Uintah County fire departments responded to 12 fires and most of them were caused by aerial fireworks too close to combustibles. On July 5th, there were 3 fires with two of them caused by fireworks. Fireworks are illegal once again until the window of celebration from July 22nd through the 25th. Clearly, there should be no discharging of fireworks at this time but there are other ways individuals increase the risk of sparking a wildfire. “During a Red Flag Warning it is critical that no agricultural burning is done,” shares Raymond. “Be careful when recreating. Don’t drive through tall dry grass. Make sure campfires are out and target shoot in areas free of vegetation.”
