The Rangely Police Chief extended thanks to the Rangely Community following a “Vigil for George Floyd” held on Tuesday in Rangely’s Hefley Park. On Monday, the Rangely Police Department issued a press release to the public that they had been in contact with the event’s organizers and had been assured that the event was not a “protest”. The press release stated that there was no truth to rumors that members of ANTIFA were planning to be in attendance. It also stated police would NOT tolerate any violence or property damage by anyone during the event. The vigil was held as planned, during which recorded speeches from the group “Black Lives Matter” were played and a candlelight vigil was held. Following the event, Police Chief Hamblin issued a press release stating the following: “As your Chief of Police, I am proud to be part of a community that can have a difference in opinion with ‘another group’ and stay respectful of their constitutional rights to gather peacefully. I think what Rangely accomplished tonight as a community should be the standard across the United States.”
