It’s been an exciting few days for a local young fisherman. 10-year-old Tyler Grimshaw of Vernal has made headlines all over the country the last few days since he reeled in a 41-pound lake trout while fishing Flaming Gorge with his dad. Nearby boats of fellow anglers witnessed the epic catch that the 10-year-old expertly reeled in all on his own. Cherished pictures were taken before the massive fish was released back into the lake. The Grimshaw family practices avid catch and release when it comes to trophy lake trout and Tyler has even been allowed to help the DWR with net pulls and fish transplants to learn about preserving the Flaming Gorge fishery. Tyler’s parents shared pictures of his big catch on social media and so did his friends at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Everything snowballed from there and Tyler has now been featured on news outlets all over Utah and beyond, including USA Today Sports. Because of Tyler’s absolute love of fishing, his parents created the ‘Fishing with Tyler’ Facebook page where they will post pictures of Tyler’s past, present, and future fishing adventures. The Facebook page shares that Tyler has been fishing since before he can remember and hopes to one day be a professional fisherman, a goal he is obviously well on his way to achieving. Congratulations Tyler Grimshaw on your big catch and thank you for representing the Basin so well!
