A change has happened in the way that Harmful Algal Blooms will be handled. The previous HABs program run by the Department of Environmental Quality and Division of Water Quality was defunded by the Utah Legislature which means that they will no longer be monitoring or sampling waterbodies and there will no longer be website updates. Local health departments will now be handling communication coordination and is who the community should contact if there is a suspected Harmful Algal Bloom at a Uintah Basin waterbody. Water Bodies in northeastern Utah, including most Diamond Mountain lakes, that experience the most algae blooms have been recently updated with new advisory signs to help visitors know what to watch for.
