Roosevelt Police shared last week on Facebook that they have heard that there are some organized rallies that will be taking place in Roosevelt in support of civil rights. Roosevelt City Police Chief Rick Harrison has confirmed that organizers will be holding an event at the Old Mill Park in Roosevelt at 4:30pm today and has been told that “the intent is unification and peaceful exchange of ideas and concerns.” According to the flier for the event, the ‘Uintah Basin Unification Picnic’ is meant for individuals to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere of inclusion where you can mingle and get to know the members of our diverse Uintah Basin community. The police department posted of the event that they “whole heartedly support everyone’s right to assemble peacefully to express concerns and support basic human rights. The founders of our great nation wisely protected our right to assemble and it is our privilege to exercise that right as we see fit. We ask that everyone’s rights be respected as we strive to come to terms with the questions currently confronting us as citizens.”
