While some anticipated that Governor Herbert would move the health risk level to Green, that did not happen. On June 5th, the Governor extended his COVID-19 health risk status order from May 29th through June 12th meaning all current health risk guidance for the state remains unchanged. This means for most of the state the status remains at the Yellow (low risk) phase and for some targeted areas like Salt Lake City, the risk status remains at Orange (moderate risk). “Common sense requires keeping our current health risk guidance in place,” shared Governor Herbert. “We all want to return to more normal patterns of life as soon as possible, but we also do not want to take a step back in our progress against this disease and our reactivation of the economy. A marked increase in disease incidence and in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 give us pause. We will continue to analyze data trends with an eye toward balancing overall health risks and protecting high risk populations.” Governor Herbert also noted that some rural counties in the state could be moved to Green status before the end of the month.
