Utah ́s Division of Wildlife Resources wants to remind the public that Free Fishing Day is happening this Saturday, June 6th. Due to COVID-19, the DWR will not be having any public events but that shouldn’t stop residents from getting outdoors and enjoying some free fishing. Randy Oplinger, the sports fisheries coordinator for Utahś DWR, states, ̈because you don’t need a license to fish that day, it’s the perfect time to take a family member with you and introduce them to the sport. Early June is one of the best times to fish Utah. All of the fish in the state, both warm-water and cold-water fish, are active and willing to bite this time of the year.” Some recommended spots from the agency that are in the northeastern area includes Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Matt Warner Reservoir, Red Fleet Reservoir, and Moon Lake. For all those anglers professional and first timers, please note that though DWR is waiving the requirement of having a fishing license, the entrance fees for state parks and other areas still apply. If you are planning to enjoy the outdoors be sure to maintain social distancing.
