Local Middle School Scientists Place in Major Science Fair

Local middle school students are being recognized for their brilliant scientific minds. Uintah School District announced on Tuesday that 31 students representing Uintah Middle School and Vernal Middle School were recognized for their science projects during the annual Ritchey Junior Science & Engineering Fair. The event had to be held virtually this year due to Weber State being closed by COVID-19. Top honors went to Dace Johnson from VMS with a first place in the Energy and Transportation category with his project titled “Spin me Round.” His project also earned the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Award and a second place for the U.S. Air Force Association Award. Colton Cantlin from VMS claimed second place in the Engineering and Computer Science category with his project titled “Flakes Under Pressure.” Annabelle Johnson from VMS claimed second place in the Medical and Health category with her project titled “Exercise With Energy.” Drew Huber from VMS claimed second place in the Zoology category with his project titled “Return of the Cricket.” GennyLee Huber from VMS claimed third place in the Environmental category with her project titled “Against the Wind.” Huber’s project also earned the Naval Science Award. Congratulations to these students and the many others recognized!
