Ashley National Forest Reminds People to Mind Campfires

Ashley National Forest is reminding the public to be responsible when dealing with campfires. First responders recently had to visit Dowd Mountain to respond to an abandoned campfire. Luckily the fire was contained quickly so it only burned a 10th of an acre. Our forest is a wonderful experience that we all must work together to keep healthy and safe. Part of that experience is being attentive to the responsibility of campfires. Be sure to always monitor your campfires and never leave them unattended. If you do need to leave be sure that the campfire is completely dead-out. To ensure a campfire is dead-out, pour a nonflammable liquid over it and stir the coals until they are cool. It might seem as if everything is fine because it is early in the season but Ashley Forest reminds you that there are fuels that are ready and available to burn.
