Eagle Scout and Altamont High Senior Parker Brotherson has created something extraordinary to be placed at Upper Country Market in Altamont. Donated to Altonah American Legion Toyack Post 53, Brotherson’s flag retirement box project was accomplished in loving memory of J. Douglas Holgate, a deceased beloved member of the community. The box serves as a place for community members to retire their flags after many years of service and time gone by. It’s asked that those who retire their flags here add a note with a few details about the flag’s history, these to be read at the flag’s retirement ceremony. Parker would like to thank those who generously donated to the project, especially Direct Field Services, who donated the necessary materials, and to Karolyn Jessen for the eagle artwork that adorns the box.
