will greatly increase the safety for pedestrians on a long stretch of Highway 40 that was previously without a light to stop traffic. At the same time, it is important for all to spread the word and pay extra attention as drivers are getting used to this new light installed specifically for pedestrian crossing. “The HAWK beacon is not illuminated until it is activated by a pedestrian, triggering the warning flashing red lights to indicate to a driver to stop for pedestrians,” shares Vernal City. “Drivers must come to a complete stop when the light is a solid red. During the alternating flashing red lights, drivers must come to a complete stop and then can proceed after checking to make sure that pedestrians have already crossed their lane of travel.” HAWK stands for
