Phase 1 of the UDOT drainage project on Vernal’s Highway 40 is on track to be completed next week. “This project is a small urgent repair project from 600 West to 700 West and Main Street,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “This project includes the lining of aged corrugated metal pipe, rebuild of the irrigation box at 600 West, and the addition of a line along Main Street to help with the irrigation system.” Phase 2 of the project is the more significant portion of the project. “This portion of the project involves adding a storm drain line from 400 West to 500 East on the south edge of Main Street,” explains Bennion. “This project will dramatically reduce the occurrences of flooding along Main Street. This project was bid this past month and the bids came in over the allocated budget. The project plans are being reviewed and will be rebid within the next month.” The time frame allotted for completion of Phase 2 is August 3rd of this year to June of 2021. Phase 3 will be a resurface project from 500 East to 1000 West on Highway 40. “This section was not constructed last year with the rest of Hwy 40 on the east / Naples and the west end. The project was postponed and will occur after the downtown drainage project for a new asphalt surface and paint.”
