The Uintah County Republican Convention was held Monday evening. For Uintah County Commission Seat C, the Round One results were Troy Slaugh 29%, Brad Horrocks 35%, and Shawn Labrum 36%. Round Two results were Brad Horrocks 45% and Shawn Labrum 54%. For Uintah County Surveyor, results were 35% Brock Slaugh and 65% Paul Hawkes. For Uintah County Treasurer, results were 36% Chris Laris and 64% Wendy Long. Uintah County Assessor Barbara Simper and Uintah County Recorder Brenda McDonald were both Unopposed. All the candidates except Brock Slaugh and Paul Hawkes had also gathered the required signatures to have their names on the June Primary ballot. Because no one received 70% or more of the vote the top two candidates go to the Primary ballot anyway. Uintah County Republican Party Chairman Brian Gorum shared that Monday’s Convention had an exceptional turnout with 170 of 171 delegates in attendance. Gorum emphasized that the evening was seamless thanks to the phenomenal job of Vice Chairman Keith Hill who came up with the format and put in the hours to see it through. The Primary election is June 30th and will be done by mail. Only Registered Republicans can vote in the Primary but anyone can affiliate with the Republican Party in order to vote and then change back afterwards. “It’s important that Uintah County citizens understand that the June election is the most important on a county level,” explained Gorum. “Whoever wins the Primary will automatically be the Republican candidate for the November election and they will be running unopposed. So whoever wins in June is essentially elected in November.” Gorum emphasized that he feels strongly about the privilege of voting and he hopes the citizens of Uintah County will take the Primary election seriously and do their civic duty to vote!
