Governor Gary Herbert announced Tuesday that Utah K-12 public schools will finish the current school year as home based learning. Governor Herbert stated that after consulting at length with stakeholders they came to the conclusion that this is not the time to have schools back open and having crowded rooms of young people as they continue efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. Duchesne County School District shared the following message with parents after the Governor’s announcement: “Teaching and learning will continue to be online through Zoom, Canvas, and other online tools. Food services will continue as it is now. High Schools are currently working on a plan for graduation ceremonies. We expect those plans to be known sometime soon. We appreciate the great work by our teachers and all other staff members. We appreciate all the tremendous work being done by our students and their supportive families. Feel free to contact your school if you have any questions. It will be wonderful to get back together in person next fall.” The Uintah School District shared the following message after the Governor’s announcement: “Uintah School District administrators, teachers, and staff will continue to provide our students with home-based instruction and free grab-n-go lunches through the end of the school year. In the coming days, we will share updated information about graduation, access to schools to clean out lockers, [and] the process for returning Chromebooks when home-based instruction ends. We appreciate your continued patience and support.”
