Uintah County Declares Local Emergency Due to Economic Impact of Pandemic

Uintah County has declared a local state of emergency due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I have been speaking daily with business owners, hotel managers and others in our county,” shares Uintah County Commission Chairman Brad Horrocks. “Some are already suffering significant economic losses brought on by the efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and there’s no concrete timeline for when that might change.” Horrocks signed a proclamation on Friday, March 20th, declaring the local state of emergency. Horrocks explains that the declaration is a critical first step toward helping businesses and residents during uncertain times and it starts a legal process allowing the county to assist locals with applications for financial aid from agencies like the Small Business Administration. It also allows Uintah County to ask for and receive disaster assistance and mutual aid should that become necessary. As a matter of safety, Horrocks encourages all Uintah County residents to follow the advisories and recommendations outlined to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “Please practice social distancing, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, cover your cough, and stay home if you’re sick,” urges Horrocks. “These simple steps can have powerful effects when it comes to slowing the spread of the coronavirus.” For questions about COVID-19, visit coronavirus.utah.gov.
