A Ballard man is facing a long list of charges including Felony Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and Violation of a Protective Order following an alleged series of domestic violence events on Wednesday. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause filed in 8th District Court, at approximately 9:30pm on February 19th 57-year-old William John Arnold arrived at the residence of a woman he had a relationship history with and who has a protective order against him. Arnold was “standing in the doorway yelling at her about a title for a vehicle.” Things quickly escalated as Arnold entered the residence, becoming more agitated, grabbed the woman “by the throat strangling her using enough force to lift her off the ground completely by her neck.” In the events that followed, Arnold located a .22 pistol in the home, pointed it at the woman, told her he was going to kill her and then discharged it, only missing her by inches. Arnold forced the woman to leave with him, traveling to his residence in Ballard and eventually returning to her residence. Arnold fell asleep and the woman took the opportunity to send messages to police using her computer because Arnold had smashed her cell phone. When Arnold woke up he took more bullets for the pistol, made the woman give him all the cash she had, threatened to kill her if she said anything to anyone about what had happened, and then left. Arnold was arrested and booked into Duchesne County Jail on Thursday, February 20th. Court documents show that the total recommended bail amount is $112,720 dollars.
