Uintah County Travel and Tourism is always on the lookout for the next big fun event to put the Vernal area on the map and they just may have found it with their Dinosaurland Cornhole Classic tournament this weekend. Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp says the idea for the event came from Uintah County Commissioner Brad Horrocks as something fun to do inside during the long winter months in Vernal. “This really is an up and coming sport,” Coltharp says with a laugh. “You can watch it on ESPN and it will probably be in the Olympics someday. So who knows, maybe playing in the Dinosaurland Cornhole Classic is your first step toward a SportsCenter highlight or an Olympic medal.” Regardless of your motivation, this weekend’s tournament is guaranteed to be a fun time with friends and family and there’s the chance to win some serious cash. There will be divisions for Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Senior Doubles, Co-Ed Doubles, Juniors (14 to 17) and Kids (3 to 13). First prize in each adult division is $500, with second place taking home $250 and the third place finishers collecting $100. There will be cash prizes awarded in the Juniors and Kids divisions, too. The event runs February 7th and 8th at the Western Park. Call 435-781-6769 for more information or to register.
