The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics has released data showing that Utah ranks number 1 for total job growth in the U.S. at 3.3 percent. Utah is also ranked number 1 for private sector job growth at 3.6 percent and is now tied for number 1 in lowest national unemployment at 2.3 percent along with South Carolina and Vermont. “Utah culminates 2019 with a resilient and convincing employment picture,” reports Workforce Services Chief Economist Mark Knold. “The economy continues adding to multiple years of robust job creation. This dynamic has carried Utah to its lowest recorded unemployment rate. The job market is humming along at a feverish pace and is absorbing as much labor as possible.” While northeastern Utah counties are still above the state average for unemployment, each county dropped in unemployment in 2019 as a whole. December’s numbers have not yet been released but based on November’s numbers, Daggett and Duchesne County were down by at least a percent and Uintah County was down by nearly a percent. Updated unemployment numbers by county are expected to be released this week.
