Sleep plays a major part in our health. Struggling to find healthy sleep habits and patterns might seem like the norm but should not be taken lightly. The sleep specialist with Ashley Regional Medical Center, Shelly Sorenesen, shares that “if you’ve tried different tactics and are still having trouble sleeping, you may be suffering from a sleep disorder. Left untreated, sleep disorders can be very damaging to a person’s overall health.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that the four most common sleep disorders in the U.S. are insomnia, narcolepsy, Restless Leg Syndrome and sleep apnea. There can be a relief as sleep disorders can often be treated in various ways. “If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of a sleep disorder or are having difficulty maintaining good sleep habits in general, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider to determine the best treatment for you,” explains Sorensen.
