Uintah High Athletic Director Bill Sivert announced the new Ute head football coach on Thursday. Justin DeCol will replace Mike Petersen, who retired after the 2019 season. DeCol graduated from Uintah High School in 1991 and has spent more than two decades coaching at the prep and junior college levels. He considers the chance to coach at his alma mater as a great opportunity. “I am humbled to be a football coach and a teacher,” shares DeCol. “I enjoy creating a culture of success and helping kids learn valuable life lessons that make them better in the classroom, on the field, at home and in our community. I am also very aware of the tradition and pride the Utes football program can bring to the Vernal area.” DeCol has coached 14 years at the prep level including at Mountain Crest, Box Elder and Union high schools. Most recently he was associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Union for the 2019 season. DeCol coached at the junior college level at Snow College for 8 years, during a time of great success for the team with an overall record of 53-7 and winning 5 straight WSFL Conference Championships. DeCol will begin teaching at Uintah High School at the start of the third trimester as a health and physical education teacher.
