Caution Urged Around Rivers; Call to Report Blocked Culverts or Obstructions

Caution is urged around rivers throughout the Uintah Basin. National Weather Service has alerted the region that warm temperatures are accelerating the snow melt causing creeks and rivers to run high and flow fast and local agencies are making sure Basin residents are informed. “Much higher river flow leads to swift and unpredictable currents,” shares the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. “Debris in the water could create numerous snags. Water temperatures will be quite cold with the introduction of the snowmelt into the rivers and streams. If recreating or working in or near high flow waterways, use appropriate safety gear. Unstable banks along fast moving waterways may quickly give way and should be avoided.” Duchesne County Emergency Management wants to know if you see a blocked culvert or any obstruction in a river that might cause it to overflow the banks. Emergency Management Director Mike Lefler asks that information be reported to Central Dispatch at
