A prescribed burn is going as planned near Flaming Gorge Dam. Ashley National Forest provided an overview of the prescribed fire on Monday explaining that the fire was implemented in the Flaming Gorge Vernal Ranger District on the Ashley National Forest over the weekend. “Over 4100 acres were burned and 60 fire personnel from the Ashley National Forest and neighboring forests were assigned to the fire,” shares the Ashley National Forest. “The fire crews have been preparing for the prescribed burn for over a month by building fire line and conducting back burns to keep the fire within the outlined perimeter…The targeted fuels treatment was conducted in ponderosa pine stands to reduce fuel build up in case a wildland fire should occur. ” Prescribed burns are considered an effective way to reduce severity of forest fires and allow more plant and wildlife to flourish.
