The Utah Department of Environmental Quality issued a Boil Advisory on Friday for a specific area in Duchesne County. According to the Friday announcement, South Duchesne Culinary Water has had reports of water users becoming ill prompting the Boil Advisory. South Duchesne Culinary Water provides water to less than 40 homes. Utah DEQ explained that on October 19th there was a main line water break and during the investigation and fix, 10 samples were taken which were all satisfactory. The samples did not, however, show chlorine residual. On November 7th, the Utah Department of Health notified South Duchesne of one case of Giardia that could be related to the drinking water. Utah DEQ and the Utah Department of Health is investigating the case and in the meantime South Duchesne is taking steps to fix all breaks in the system, re-establish the chlorine residual levels, check for any cross connections in the system, and continue to take water samples. Residents served by South Duchesne Culinary Water should continue to follow the Boil Advisory until otherwise notified.
