An arrest was made in the bank robberies that took place about a week apart last month in western Colorado. According to a press release from the Rifle Police Department, Rudy Cardenas was arrested on the morning of September 27th at a motel in the Denver Metro area by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. On September 18th, the Bank of Colorado was robbed in Craig when a man entered the bank, handed an employee a note demanding money, and was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash. While that robbery was still under investigation, the Bank of Colorado in Rifle was robbed just six days later on the afternoon of September 24th. Investigators determined that the robberies were connected and in the press release it states that Cardenas was arrested for committing both robberies. At the time of Cardenas’ arrest, an unidentified female was also detained. The investigation was a joint effort by the Rifle Police Department, Craig Police Department, Grand Junction Police Department, West Jordan Police Department, 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Colorado Information Analysis Center, and the FBI.
