One in three homes in Utah have elevated levels of radon gas. As such, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality’s Radon Program has partnered with the Utah Department of Health, Utah Cancer Action Network and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to invite youth from the ages of 9 to 18, including those in the Uintah Basin, to participate in the 2019 National Radon Poster Contest. There are three categories of grades 4th through 6th, 7th through 9th, and 10th through 12th each with a cash award for first, second and third place. Posters will be judged according to content-accuracy, visual communication of topic, reproducibility and originality then online voting will run from November 5th to November 12th. To access poster contest submissions forms go to www.radon.utah.gov. This is also where the public can come to vote. Posters are due by October 22nd. The website also connects individuals to radon test kits and radon contractors.
