A school crossing guard was hit by a teenage driver near Kings Peak Elementary in Roosevelt on Thursday morning. According to a press release from the Roosevelt City Police, a 1997 Mazda sedan driven by a 16-year-old driver failed to yield to the school crossing guard at 300 West 200 North at about 7:50am on September 12th. “The crossing guard, 70-year-old Susan Knorr, was hit by the car and thrown several feet. She sustained serious head and leg injuries. Her condition is not known at this time. The child she was escorting across the street was not injured.” Police confirm that the crossing lights were functioning at the time of the accident and that Ms. Knorr was holding the proper stop sign, was wearing the emergency colored outerwear, and had proper cones in place. Police say that the early morning sun may have been a contributing factor in the accident. Charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation and Roosevelt City urges all drivers to pay particular attention to pedestrians near and on school routes.
