Utah’s employment situation continues to improve with a cumulative 63,500 jobs added to the economy since January 2020. The latest data from the Department of Workforce Services shows that the state’s current job count stands at 1.6 million. As of January, employment in Daggett County was reported at 350; employment in Duchesne County was reported at 7,769; and employment in Uintah County was reported at 12,749. “Utah’s economy entered 2022 on a solid footing and as one of only four states in the nation that have more jobs now than before the pandemic,” reports DWS Chief Economist Mark Knold. “All of Utah’s major industry sectors have returned to or are exceeding their pre-pandemic levels. The lone exception is government, and that is largely traced to the pandemic-induced reductions in higher education employment.” Unemployment data is expected to be released this week as well.
