The Uintah County Commission is reviewing the proposed rules and regulations for the 719 acres of county-owned property in Ashley Gorge during this week’s Wednesday work session. In a Monday press release, Uintah County encouraged the public to attend the work session in order to provide input and stay informed of the latest information concerning Ashley Gorge. The property being discussed was transferred to Uintah County through the Dingell Act in 2019 when Congress directed the BLM to convey ownership to the county. The conveyance outlined four restrictions: for the land to be managed as open space to protect the watershed, underground karst system, and aquifer; that mining or any form of mineral development be prohibited; that the land be accessible for non-motorized public recreation; and that no new roads may be constructed on the land. In preparation for tomorrow’s meeting, Uintah County has been busy meeting with representatives of local water stakeholders to go over the proposed rules and receive technical feedback. “The proposed rules and regulations are intended for use by the general public – the Public Water Systems and Public Utility providers will not be subject to the proposed rules,” shares the press release. The public is encouraged to attend the Commission Work Session being held Wednesday, March 12th, at noon in the Uintah County Commission Large Conference Room.
