The Basin man accused of kidnapping a couple and killing his father in Duchesne County last year was returned to Utah from Colorado last week to face a capital murder charge in 8th District Court. A manhunt that began in Duchesne County and ended in Grand Junction last October found Main Jr. in custody in Grand Junction and law enforcement investigating crimes that took place over 2 days and 2 states. In 8th District Court, Main was charged with capital aggravated murder, 2 counts of 1st Degree Felony Kidnapping, 2nd Degree Felony Theft, and 3rd Degree Felony Use of a Firearm by a Restricted Person. According to court documents, Main’s father called police onOctober 28th before noon reporting that his son Main, Jr. had stolen his gun and was “acting crazy.” Later on Friday, Main Jr. kidnapped two people at gunpoint at a Page Bench Road residence but the couple was later able to get away. The kidnapped man told police that Main Jr. had been bragging about shooting his father. When officers went to do a welfare check on James Main, Sr. at his home, he was found deceased by gunshot wounds. The 22 charges Main Jr. was facing in Grand Junction were dropped last week so he could be extradited to Utah, reports the Deseret News, but the Mesa County deputy district attorney plans to refile the case in several weeks to eventually be faced. When the charges are refiled, Main Jr. will be returned to Colorado to face those charges once the Utah case has concluded.
