Petition Denied As Plans To Transfer 15 Wolves From Canada To Colorado Begins

The 2025 plans to transfer wolves from Canada to Colorado are underway in the same week that the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission voted down a citizen petition requesting a halt to the plans in order to focus on preventing conflicts between wolves and livestock. 26 organizations were named in the petition, including the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, which was denied on January 8th. On January 11th, Colorado Parks & Wildlife issued a press release that the 2025 capture season has begun which will release up to 15 wolves from British Columbia into Colorado this year. The wolves will be transported in crates to Colorado by aircraft and then will be released at select sites as soon as possible after arriving in Colorado. Parks and Wildlife officials emphasize that the wolves are being pulled from areas where livestock are not present so they do not have concerns about these wolves having a history with livestock depredation. This has not proven a comfort to agricultural and livestock producers that take issue with the livestock depredation that has already taken place and they suspect will continue.
