An attempted UHP traffic stop in the Myton area eventually lead to 7 fugitive arrests in Duchesne County on Thursday. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a trooper noticed a white Ford Expedition with a temporary tag in the rear window after10:00am that was following too closely. The trooper attempted to make the traffic stop of the eastbound Expedition around mile post 94 but the driver sped away and the trooper pursued the Expedition for a short time but terminated the chase due to the danger on the roadway. A short time later, a Duchesne County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the Expedition parking at the Ute Petroleum gas station in Myton and placed the driver under arrest before he could run. The vehicle was found to be stolen and the driver was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, DUI Metabolite, Fleeing, Forgery of a Temporary Tag, Counterfeit Money, Open Container, Possession of Heroin and Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm by a Restricted Person, Obstruction of Justice, Reckless Driving, Following Too Close, and No Driver’s License. Law enforcement knew that passengers in the Expedition had fled before the driver’s arrest and, after forming a strategy to apprehend the outstanding subjects, they cleared Myton City house by house. Myton Elementary School was put on lockdown until the city was cleared. Intel came in that there had been up to 5 others in the Expedition that had fled on foot. According to Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison, the passengers that fled on foot were taken into custody at Stoneridge Apartments. Two juvenile males, one adult male and two adult females had fled on foot from the Expedition and were apprehended as well as another female who drove to pick up the group as they fled on foot. In total, 7 fugitive arrests were made on warrants through what was initially a traffic stop. The arrests were a collaborative effort with Utah Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation, Roosevelt Police Department, BIA, AP&P, Myton Police Department, and Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.
