Daggett County is taking a hit after the removal of state inmates from the Daggett County Jail in February after allegations of misconduct surfaced. According to the Daggett County Sheriff’s Office, 80 state inmates were removed from the jail on Friday, February 17th, and 2 employees were put on administrative leave during the investigation. Several weeks prior, Daggett County Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen notified the Utah Department of Corrections of a situation he had been made aware of and asked them to investigate. The Utah Department of Corrections could soon wrap up the investigation bu t regardless, having the jail sit empty is a loss of funds to Daggett County. The jail at full capacity of 80 inmates brings in $4,160 dollars a day, shares Sheriff’s Office Manager Susie Potter. This means there has been a loss to the County so far of over $212,000 dollars. From the beginning, the Utah Department of Corrections assured Daggett County that the investigation would be conducted in as timely a manner as possible.
