No charges will be filed in an alleged sexual assault case that was made public in May and involved the Duchesne High School basketball team. At the time, it was confirmed that multiple players from the Duchesne team were investigated in connection with an alleged incident that was reported in Cedar City during the time of the 2A state basketball tournament at Southern Utah University in February. Duchesne Schools Superintendent Jason Young released a statement in May emphasizing that upon being informed of allegations, school officials notified both the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office and DCFS of what had been reported. School officials also took immediate protective measures to ensure the safety of students. Parents were also notified and included in the safety plan. The Iron County Attorney’s Office has investigated and this month announced that they will not pursue charges after failing to meet the burden of proof required. It was also stated that this decision is supported by the alleged victim’s parents.
