The Ashley National Forest announced on Tuesday plans to conduct burning of slash piles on the Vernal Ranger District this winter as weather and fuel conditions allow. “Pile locations include the Greens Draw and Marsh Bench areas,” shares the announcement. “The locations within Greens Draw contain piles of cut vegetation created during construction of a fuels break associated with the Speirs fire. The Marsh Bench locations contain hand-cut piles associated with construction of the Red Cloud Loop fuels break, part of the Vernal Municipal Watershed Project. There may also be small scale pile burns in other areas where vegetation clearing projects have occurred.” These are expected to cause minimal impact to other areas or activities but smoke will likely be visible. The fuel breaks created aim to reduce future wildfire.
