Uintah County issued an update this week on the Via Ferrata project stating that the Via Ferrata will proceed in Ashley Gorge. For those needing caught up, Via Ferrata is an outdoor recreation opportunity in which participants traverse a cliff side utilizing metal rails bolted to the cliff face and a safety cable travelers clip onto. This week’s update shares that the project will be completed on Uintah County property according to the route design detailed in the Project Development Packet and project completion is anticipated for 2025. “Guidelines for use of the Via Ferrata, as well as, general public access for Ashley Gorge will be developed and implemented prior to the completion of the Via Ferrata project,” shares the announcement. “The Management Plan will include, but is not limited to: long and short term management practices, visitation reporting guidelines, site maps including access points, parking area, restrooms, and trash collection.” It also stated that Uintah County will “continue coordination with stakeholders to ensure proper measures are in place for infrastructure and water-source protections.” Local and state water officials have been consulted and relying on expert guidance, Uintah County stated that they trust that safe, reliable drinking water will continue to be delivered, while also maintaining public access to public lands.
