The Uintah County Commission held a public hearing regarding the 2025 budget during Tuesday’s Commission meeting. To begin, Clerk/Auditor Mike Wilkins read an update on the budget so far. “The 2025 budget being presented is currently out of balance for the General and Municipal service funds,” he began. “The County is currently short in revenue by $2,829,600 dollars.” Wilkins stated that the “budget being presented includes a $351,600 dollar increase as a selective salary adjustment, or 2.5% increase,” noting that “this is not for every employee.” He said the budget “reflects an increase in estimated sales tax revenue of $1,939,000.” The law enforcement budget was also highlighted. “With the repeal of the Sales Tax Resolution for law enforcement and the law enforcement budget having increased by more than $5.3 million dollars since 2021, including an increase from 2024 to 2025 of $1,198,300 dollars, there is insufficient revenue for law enforcement services,” said Wilkins. He also noted that property taxes have been decreased by more than $3.1 million from 2017 to 2022. His entire presentation can be viewed on the meeting recording on the Uintah County YouTube channel. Commissioner Sonja Norton emphasized at the end of the public hearing that what was presented is not the final budget. They will pass a balanced budget this month but it is still being worked on.
