The State director over medical cannabis has gone on the record stating that there is a need for more medical marijuana pharmacies and northeastern Utah is among the locations he said a location is needed. The Industrial Hemp and Medical Cannabis Division is part of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food and its director, Dr. Brandon Forsyth, has said that they want Utah legislature to issue 4 new licenses for areas around the state. KSL reports that, speaking to the State Senate Executive Appropriations Committee, Forsyth said that people in these areas have long distances to the nearest pharmacy as a barrier to accessing their medication. Many of these patients cross state lines to get their medical cannabis in Colorado because it is closer and others access it from the black market. The proposal is that Utah Legislature issue 4 more licenses in Utah so that people have reasonable access. The locations suggested include one in the Moab area; one to cover Davis, Weber, and Morgan Counties; one for Central Utah; and one to locate in Duchesne or Uintah County.
