Rio Blanco County Commissioners Meeting To Discuss Opposition To Wolf Reintroduction

by | Nov 18, 2024 | News | 0 comments

Leaders in western Colorado have been among those opposed to gray wolf reintroduction in the state and that opposition is the topic of a meeting being held tonight by the Rio Blanco County Commissioners. Up until last week, Colorado Parks and Wildlife included Rio Blanco County on a list of potential counties under consideration for releasing gray wolves. A CPW press release stated last week that Rio Blanco County was removed as a potential location due to the proximity to livestock, elevating the risk of conflict, as well as the potential impact to elk and deer herds recovering from the severe winter of 2022-2023. Tonight’s Commission work session, titled ‘Opposition to CPW Wolf Reintroduction in Rio Blanco County’, is scheduled to start at 6:30pm in the Fairfield Center in Meeker.
